The Bomb Cherry Chocolate Cake

My Aunt Bonnie gave me this cake recipe. While I’m usually devoted to making homemade desserts, I include this chocolate cake in my baking repertoire because I consider it a family recipe. And it’s good to have a quick, simple dessert recipe on-hand. This is my Aunt Bonnie’s recipe:

Mix by hand:
2 eggs, beaten;
1 package chocolate cake mix;
1 can cherry pie filling.

Spray 13×9 baking dish with cooking spray;
Spread cake batter in pan;
Bake @ 350* 25-35 minutes.

Cool completely on wire rack before frosting.

Aunt Bonnie’s recipe calls for a chocolate icing, but I prefer a thicker frosting. I am in the process of developing my perfect chocolate frosting recipe and will post when I’m pleased with it. So, until then, canned frosting will do and the cake is delicious plain.
